Letoya Makhene Pulumo is a creative artist who has reached a point in her life where she knows what she wants. After leaving Generations: The Legacy, she has decided to focus on film and serves as the genre she wants to explore.
Leaving Generations: The Legacy
Letoya, who played the role of Tshidi Phakade on the soapie, told the news reporters that she left the show on good terms. She made the decision to focus on other avenues to better her life. She said, “I absolutely love film. This is why I made a decision to leave Generations: The Legacy … not because I didn’t enjoy it or I didn’t appreciate the platform that I had.”
The Demands of Working on a Soapie
Working on a soapie can be demanding. Letoya explained, “We are talking about working 12-hour days and that is outside early morning, when you wake up and when you put those together. We are literally working for 16 hours. You are learning scripts over and over, you’ve got no life outside that soapie.”
Exploring Other Talents
Letoya is a multi-talented artist. She said, “God has blessed me with many other gifts. Not only am I a singer, I’m a traditional healer, a songwriter. I’ve got so many other different talents that I needed to get in touch with and just time to grow.”
Letoya’s Role in Netflix’s ‘Home Wrecker’
Letoya recently starred in the Netflix movie ‘Home Wrecker’. She described it as “an exciting movie filled with so many twists and turns.”
The Decision to Leave Soapies
Letoya explained that her decision to leave soapies was not a decision to stop acting. She said, “Tshidi was such a big character and the writers were always so excited about writing for her. I was literally that one character that was on set more than any other character, so it took a lot more away from me than it was giving me. So I made a decision to come out of soapie, but I did not make a decision to stop acting.”
Building an Empire
The natural progression of Letoya’s journey has allowed her to provide for her family and ensure she can continue to live for herself and their children. She said, “What I needed to do outside my Dlozi work is to be able to build an empire and to build things that are going to be sustainable for me and my children and family. Things I’m going to leave for them once I leave this earth, or retire.”
