Leroy Gopal was born on the 6th of July in Budiriro, Harare in Zimbabwe. As of 2020 Leroy is 41 years old. He went to Budiriro Primary school, Glen View High School and Hartzell High School. Unfortunately his father passed away when he was 14 years old. Gopal studied Drama and Theatre at Masvingo Catholic College in 1995. Leroy played football when he was 3 but his appearance in the Zimbabwean TV show Paraffin at the age of 7 kick started his acting career.

Early Career
Leroy Gopal’s first acting gig was when he appeared in an episode of Paraffin, a Zimbabwean television show, at the age of 7 which he followed up with an appearance on the show Sadza Riripi. Leroy went on to act in the films Adventure Unlimited and Choose Freedom in 1996 and 1998 respectively. These films centre on the lives Christian teenagers. Leroy was one of two AFDA students to ever win the prestigious M-NET Student Of The Year award in 2003 and 2004 consecutively.
Gopal’s debut cinematic appearance was his breakout role in the film “Yellow Card” in the year 2000. In the film Leroy Gopal played a football player named “Tuyane Tsumba”. The role earned him best actor at the Dhow Film Festival in the same year. Leroy cemented his stardom with his role as “Thabang Ngema” on SABC 3’s “One Way” from 2006 to 2007. Apart from that Gopal has acted in Backstage, Home Affairs, Jozi H, Jacobs Cross and Hola Pinji.
Later On
Leroy Gopal in SABC 1‘s sitcom, “Ses’Top La” in 2012 in the role as ‘Oleshe’. In 2013, he won the award for the Best Actor in a comedy role at South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA) for this role. Afterwards he acted in the TV series “Mzansi Love: Kasi Style”. Leroy’s role was a Kenyan man named ‘Joshua Pembe’. He also acted in the short “Through the Flight of a Feather” which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
2013 was a busy year for Leroy Gopal because he acted in the prestigious film “Seal Team 8” as a Congolese dictator named ‘Tonga’. Then he made the appearance with the role ‘Abomama’ on TV series “Mzansi Magic” which became a popular character throughout the series.
Leroy Gopal plays the role of ‘Ayiteyi Asumadu’ on SABC 2’s new medical drama “Vutha”. Speaking to Paper Bag Africa, Gopal said: “I play the role of a Ghanaian doctor who is trying to overcome xenophobia and fit in the culture not only at work but also at home. Things are not looking good for him when his mother comes to visit, his wife is not the most welcoming.” The series has already premiered has not received a bad review yet.

In 2017 Leroy Gopal married Keletso Molefe and has three children with her namely, Didintle, Keagile and Naima. When interviewed he reveals that when he is not working he spends 90% of his time with his family as well as that he visits his home country of Zimbabwe from time to time and has even had the opportunity to be a presenter at the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) in 2020.
