Actress Lerato Walaza is well known for her intriguing role on MTV Series Shuga and a number of internationally recognized movies one of them being “Letters of Hope”. Popularly known as Zamo in an MTV series Walaza is set to make her debut tonight at one of South Africa’s most-watched etv’s daily soapie Scandal.
In her much-awaited debut, Walaza will join the cast as Gugu. Walaza will portray the character of a strong-willed adventurous lady who strives to explore new ways of living but never forgets her culture and where she comes from.
Walaza is not new to her role as she has portrayed more similar roles in a number of movies and series which have gained international recognition such as MTV Shuga Alone Together. The series talks about the impact which has been brought about by the novel virus Corona Virus.
The 26-year-old Tshwane University of Technology product made headlines for herself in 2019 when she appeared in the movie “Letters of Hope” which was screened at the annual Johannesburg Film Festival in 2019. The latter went on to be nominated as the opening film for the 5th South Africa International Film Festival.
With the coronavirus pandemic having a toll on television viewership patterns Scandal is set to add Walaza to the cast in a bid to regain its viewership which Imbewu has posed a threat to.
In recent years Scandal has been a formidable force in the entertainment industry but the introduction of soapies such as Imbewu and changes of storylines in series such as Muvhango and Generations The Legacy has negatively impacted Scandal whose viewership base now sits on 5,168,427 as of June survey way lesser than those of Generations and Muvhango.
Walaza’s introduction to the cast comes barely less than a month after the daily soapie introduced Netflix’s “Blood and Water” star Cindy Manhlangu and Sandile Mahlangu who plays the roles of Cindy and Simo respectively.
