A few months ago, Lasizwe Dambuza announced in an emotional video that he was quitting YouTube. However, he has now changed his mind and is planning a comeback with a new show called “Awkward Dates.”
The Show: Awkward Dates
The first episode of “Awkward Dates” will air on Lasizwe’s YouTube channel in July. He told TshisaLIVE that the show will serve as a birthday present for himself. Lasizwe came up with the concept for the 10-episode show and wrote the scripts and questions. He had a lot of time on his hands, which made this possible.
Inspiration
Lasizwe was inspired by UK YouTuber and content creator Amelia Dimoldenberg and her show “Chicken Shop Date.” He was a huge fan of the show and how it was executed. Lasizwe believes that South African celebrities are often not seen as human and hopes to change this perception with his show.

Guest Selection
In a clip on Instagram, it was revealed that the guests on the show will include Mihlali, Toss, and Mmusi Maimane. Lasizwe explained that his guest selection criteria were informal and based on how people perceive certain individuals. For example, Mmusi Maimane is known for being serious and dealing with serious topics. Lasizwe wanted to show him in a light and fun way.
Mental Wellbeing
After taking a hiatus from YouTube, Lasizwe is now prioritizing his mental wellbeing. He has been taking time off to focus on his mental health and to align himself. He believes that the nature of the entertainment industry requires individuals to give so much of themselves that they can lose themselves. He is trying to recollect himself and be one with himself.
Trust
When asked if being in showbiz helped his guests relax and trust him, Lasizwe responded that people need to gain your trust before they can open up. Being in the industry has helped, but he also believes that being human is important. He sees his guests as colleagues in the same industry but also recognizes the human aspect of their interactions.
