Social media has been rife with speculation on which The River major character will be leaving the show. After the announcement beginning of the week that a major character will be leaving the soapie, there was no confirmation of who it would be. While all fingers pointed at Sindi Dlathu who plays Lindiwe Dikana, as she is joining the soapie’s production team as executive producer, it appears rumours were inaccurate. Larona Moagi who plays Tumi on The River will be exiting the show in style in the season 3 finale.
From the conception of The River Tumi has been there. Her character has grown from innocent Tumi who was raised by Ma Molefe to becoming Lindiwe’s daughter in every way possible. Unfortunately the actress’ journey with the 1 Magic soapie has come to an end.
The River’s Tumi has stated her gratitude at having worked with a team that made her work all the easier. “I met directors who’ve been there for me. It was challenging but it was cool. Tumi is a complex character and having brilliamt actors alongside me, made me produce my best work”.
“Everything comes and everything passes. Tumi has done it all and there was no other way it could have ended. I’m grateful for the opportunity. I thank the viewers for accepting Tumi and Larona, ” Larona said.
The journey hasn’t always been smooth. Larona has faced heavy criticism from fans who said the actress was not the best actress on screen. Not only fans but one of her co-stars as well. Larona and Moshidi Motshegwa butted heads when the latter claimed that Larona can’t act. This escalated to the point of involving Larona’s parents. Moshidi eventually left the soapie owing to the tension.
Live her or hate her, Tumi’s contribution to the soapie can never be taken for granted. Farewell Tumi.
