In what seems to be a bizarre incident a KwaZulu Natal resident Rishi Pooran set the internet ablaze after he planted banana trees in all the large potholes around his residential area.
Rishi Pooran has had enough of poor service delivery and waiting for the government to take action to fix potholes within his community. Pooran decided to take matters into his own hands with a new challenge of planting banana trees in potholes.
South Africans have complained over poor service delivery, amongst the concerns are the horrific state of many of the roads in Mzansi. However, one man, Rishi Pooran, decided enough is enough. Pooran challenge worked for good as the municipal workers were forced to react to his gesture.
Pooran took it to Facebook to show off his hard work and challenged other fellow South Africans to do the same.
“Here is my challenge. We had the Jerusalema challenge our officials took it on now I urge the residents to do the same. Our town has been neglected by the officials in charge of the various dept. Most of the officials only work in the municipality but live in affluent areas/estates.
“It doesn’t affect the service delivery. Our complaints with pictures and videos have been sent to both municipalities to date ignored. Our officials that drive around are not observant of these problems.”
Rishi Pooran is not only the first man who has tried to take the municipal head-on. Sometime last year a group of young men filled up a number of potholes with sand in a bid to expose the corrupt government.
But However, Rishi’s shade on the municipal paid off. In another post, Pooran shared some photos of municipal workers fixing some of the potholes.
South Africans weighed in with appraisal comments for the guts shown by Pooran. The ‘mlungu‘ as some tweeps dubbed him, joked that he got a R1.3 million tender to fix the road so he decided to fill it up with sand.
