KZN Horror Hospital: Father dies in parking lot converted into COVID-19 facility
The family of radio personality Hlengiwe Khumalo is seeking answers after their father mysteriously died in a makeshift parking lot converted into COVID-19 spillage at Northdale Hospital in Pietermaritzburg.
During an interview with Newsroom Afrika, radio producer Hlengiwe Khumalo said the family visited the hospital after their father encountered breathing problems.
Upon arrival at the hospital, they were directed to the parking lot poorly converted into a makeshift hospital spillage
“My brother and sister took him to Northdale hospital on Friday evening and was placed in a wheelchair as he couldn’t walk. He was directed to the makeshift parking lot structures for treatment, he was attended by a nurse who took a series of tests including a Coronavirus test”
Khumalo revealed that the nurses ignored the patient despite her father being visibly shaking and telling them that he is feeling cold, nothing tangible was administered to him until he succumbed to death.
Commenting on the case, KZN Head of Health Department Dr Sandile Tshabalala said the department needs time to investigate the case.

“We saw the video, we are investigating what happened, I don’t have all the details now as soon as we finish investigations we will be able to communicate.
Tshabalala defended the existence of the makeshift parking lot hospital ward and claims it’s a fever clinic.
“Because of the pandemic, we have asked all institutions to have fever clinics where patients come in and separated from those showing Covid-19 symptoms. These clinics will continue to exist because it is a screening center to make sure other non-COVID patients remain isolated. We investigate cases differently, as mentioned in this case the patient had breathing challenges but breathing challenges may come from different conditions hence we will find out and give a comprehensive response.”
