An ally of reinstated MDC-T Acting President Thokozani Khupe has revealed he is against the idea of holding an extraordinary congress. Abednico Bhebhe believes holding an extraordinary congress is playing right into the hands of their major opponent Zanu PF.
Bhebhe believes the warring factions of the MDC can find each other an reunite. The response from Bhebhe comes after Supreme Court judges Bharat Patel, Paddington Garwe and Antonia Guvava called MDC Alliance leader Neslon Chamisa’s rise to the MDC-T presidency after the death of Morgan Tsvangirai illegitimate and directed the party to hold an extraordinary congress to choose a substantive leader.
Bhebhe says the current situation plays right into the hands of their opponent and the party should avoid it. He said the ruling party always work to divide the opposition. He recommends the best way to solve the conflict is to talk and join hands.
“The party needs to re-unite itself and be strong like what it was when it was formed in 1999,” Bhebhe told NewZimbabwe.com in an interview.
Bhebhe says it is possible to organise an extraordinary congress using the 2014 structures since have archives of the party structures in 2014 but it is not the best case scenario.
