Just in: Unathi Nkayi files an R1.6 million lawsuit against Kaya 959
Media personality Unathi Nkayi files an R1.6 million lawsuit against Kaya 959 following what she claims to be an ‘unlawful’ termination of her contract. Nkayi was dismissed from the radio station in November 2021 after a dispute with Sizwe Dhlomo, whom she accused of verbal abuse and unprofessional behaviour.
Unathi Nkayi’s legal representative, David Feinberg, confirms to famous news reporters that the radio personality has issued a high court summons against Kaya 959. The summons details that Unathi is seeking R1.3 million in contractual damages, R100,000 in delictual damages, and R200,000 for the infringement of her right to dignity, totalling R1.6 million.
Nkayi declines to comment on her lawsuit against Kaya 959.
However, in an interview on Gareth Cliff’s ‘Uncancelled’ in March, Unathi opened up about the impact of leaving the radio station on her life. She revealed that she stopped receiving business offers and was unable to pay her mortgage for a year following the incident.
“If I hadn’t paid my mortgage ahead in 2007, my house would’ve been taken, from what Kaya did to me. For the past year I didn’t pay my mortgage at all because I was so ahead.”
In an Instagram post, Unathi said she had lost everything after the saga and had to go to therapy.
“I have been through the most vigorous and painful year of therapy of my life because I lost everything due to a one-sided story that many were too keen to believe.”
