Job Sikhala to remain in custody for another week
The MDC-Alliance vice chairman Job Sikhala will remain in jail for another week. This is after the High Court Judge Justice To Chitapi reserved his bail appeal ruling to Monday ob the 1st of February 2021.
Job Sikhala faces charges of publishing falsehoods. He has been in custody since January 9 2021. The Harare magistrate, Ngoni Nduna denied Job Sikhala bail. The MDC-Alliance then appealed to the High Court.
Last week Friday prosecutors asked for a postponement of the bail hearing stating that they did not receive the record of proceedings in time. As a result they required more time to do the proper procedures and go through the record.
Hopewell Chin’ono who was also arrested on similar charges as Job Sikhala has been granted bail by High Court Judge Justice David Foroma. Hopewell spent three weeks in custody.
This is not the first time that Sikhala has been arrested. He was arrested in July 2019 for treason. However, he has been cleared of those charges in February 2020. Job Sikhala has been a Member of Parliament for Zengeza West since 2018. He has also served as a Member of Parliament for St Mary’s Constituency.
