JJ Tabane Leaves Newzroom Afrika For eNCA
Your View host Dr. Onkgopotse JJ Tabane has left Newzroom Afrika for eNCA.
Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela said the anchor is expected to host a yet to be named new current affairs show that will air twice weekly, starting November 1st.
Tabane recently earned a doctorate in Media Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand. Apart from a PhD he also holds a BA, BPROC, and Master’s Degrees from West Cape University and the University of the North. He is also CEO of Sgwili Media Group. His company handled communication during the tenure of former Communications Minister Faith Muthambi.
He also worked as a presenter at Power FM where he presented the show Power Perspective. He was dismissed in 2018 from the station after he used the station as a platform to address a personal issue. Tabane had issued an apology to then acting Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) director-general Phumla Williams. Williams had said her predecessor Faith Muthambi wanted to steal at all costs.
Earlier this year, Newzroom Afrika suspended Tabane’s show Your View following controversial remarks on Limpopo. Tabane implied that the people from Limpopo practiced witchcraft at a higher level compared to other South Africans.
Newzroom Afrika distanced themselves from Tabane saying his comments were not in any way a reflection of the company’s values. He acknowledged that he had erred and issued an apology on his Twitter account.
Tabane has also held a number of high ranking positions. He once served as a non-executive chairman of the Utembezi Tourism group and as chairman of Indalo Yethu’s trust. He is also an author having published his book ‘Let’s Talk Frankly’ in 2015.
JJ Tabane is married and has two children; Resego (Son) and Oreabetse (daughter). He was born to Matthew Mathethe, and Helen Mapako. He has two siblings, a brother and a sister, Keorapetse. His brother worked in former President Thabo Mbeki’s government as Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs. Keorapetse is a qualified doctor who served at a hospital in Pietersburg.
