BACKGROUND
Itumleng was born to Elias and Flora Khune on June 20th in 1987. He is one of six children. Some could say he had the football blood in him as his father played amateur football as a striker. However,r Khune had a passion for cricket growing up. He idolised Nicky Boje.

Education
Khune spent his early life in quite several schools. He attended New Nation, Westridge, St Barnabas and RW Fick high schools. He spent most of his time in school playing cricket. His big break came when he finally decided to pursue a career in football to support himself and his family.
CAREER
Khune initially started as a defender in 1999 for the Chiefs. However, he found himself being benched and became a ball boy after experiencing chest problems during a junior game. Whilst diving for balls that had missed the target, he was spotted by TerrorSephoraa, who gave him a chance as a goalkeeper. In 2004 he then became part of the first team.
His first game was on August 25th 2007, against Jomo Cosmos. After this, he had stellar performances until a finger injury in 2009-10 side-lined him for 3months. During this time, Arthur Bartman was the goalie. During this PSL season,n he had the best defensive record league conceding only 19 goals in 30 games.
In 2011 Khune became the Chiefs captain. This was followed by what has been argued as his best season in 2012-2013, leading the Chiefs to a league and cup double. In 2013-14 he won the year’s goalkeeper for the second time in a row. In 2014 he was diagnosed with a Grade 3 stress fracture which meant he could not play in the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015.
Itumeleng Career with Bafana Bafana
Besides his career with Kaizer Chief, she was part of the Bafana Bafana squad for the 2008 AFCON. His first match was against Zimbabwe on March 11th. He then became their preferred choice in goal. After this, he went to play in the 2009 Fifa Confederations cup. Due to his stellar track record he was selected to play as first goalie in the 2010 Fifa world cup. However,r he became the second goalkeeper to be sent off in FIFA world cup history. This was because he tripped striker Luis Suarez from Uruguay.
Khune the became captain of Bafana Bafana in May 2013, taking over from Bongani Khumalo. In 2016 Khune was selected as one of South Africa’s overage players for the 2016 Summer Olympics. He arrived in the tournament with the most international experience. Khune became instrumentalising in the nation’s opening match against Brazil, resulting in a draw.
Outside of football,l he also does philanthropic work. He has donated to several organisations, including R1 million, to a nursing home in his home town of Ventersdorp.

In all of this most of his relationships have been public knowledge. He was dating the socialite Minnie Dlamini before calling it quits after being called out for cheating on her. Khune was also linked to Sbahle Mpisane, whom he cheated on before finally settling down.
Itumeleng is now happily married to one of his old-time girlfriends, Sphelele Makhunga. They tied the knot in 2017 and welcomed a bouncing baby girl into the world in 2020. Despite his bad-boy reputation, Itumeleng finally seems to be in it for the long haul with this one.
