“It was a hit. AKA was assassinated in broad daylight…” Minister Mbalula speaks. It was a sombre day for South Africa as the body of the late great Kiernan Forbes, better known as AKA, has finally returned home to Johannesburg.
The rapper was taken from this world in what can only be described as a ruthless assassination, as stated by none other than Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula.
The Minister, along with Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, former music producer and now ANC Provincial Secretary Thembinkosi Nciza, and the family’s lawyer, paid their respects outside AKA’s home in Bryanston.
The family, led by AKA’s father, was met with an outpouring of love and support from friends, fellow musicians, and even political figures. The legal representative, Rudolf Baloyi, confirmed that AKA’s remains were brought back from Durban.
“Yesterday, as you would have seen, we spent the day in Durban, where we went to identify him with the brother and the father. We spent time with the detectives and came back with him and he is now in Johannesburg,” says the lawyer.
“It was a hit. AKA was assassinated in broad daylight…” Minister Mbalula speaks
Minister Mbalula has rightfully questioned the motive behind the tragedy, and it’s sparked a much-needed conversation about gun violence in the country.
“It was a hit. AKA was assassinated in broad daylight and we believe in the capacity of the police and get to bottom of this. Because AKA was not a drug lord. He was a musician.”
Premier Lesufi has emphasized the urgent need for a debate on strengthening gun laws, as the loss of such a talented young life is devastating to the nation.
“This matter was raised sharply. If we can’t act, those with illegal guns will finish law-abiding citizens. Those with illegal guns will play god and decide who lives and dies. We will approach the legislature on strengthening gun laws.”
Music producers have been amazed by Forbes’ work ethic, earning him the moniker of Supa Mega due to his continuous release of hit after hit. TK Nciza, who initially signed Forbes as part of a group, praised the artist’s relevance, citing his ability to constantly reinvent himself.
Nciza described Forbes as “highly inquisitive” with an unparalleled work ethic and a strong belief in his own star power. He also noted Forbes’ highly opinionated and respected approach to his art.
