South African actress, Soso Runqu who played Morongwa on Isidingo will be returning to Mzansi’s screens with a role in SABC 1’S Generations: The Legacy.
Soso Runqu captured hearts with her Isidingo performance as Morongwa. One this is for sure- she brought the best out of the smart hustler and welder of Isidingo. Her command of the Xhosa language and her relationship with Gatanga had viewers eating out of the palms of her hand. Her exceptional performance had the role grow from just a sideline role to possibly her biggest on screen character to date.
Isidingo’s Morongwa, Soso Runqu joins Generations
With the end of the soapie, whoch has beem replaced by the star studded Clive Morris production, The Estate, viewers have been in need of brilliance. Fortunately, Mfundi Vundla has cone to the rescue. Soso Ronqo will be playing Detective Zanele Nyathi on Generations : The Legacy.
Soso’s role as Morongwa on Isidingo was not her only on screen appearance although her biggest. The actress has also appeared on Mzansi Love, Scandal!, Rhythm City, Sokhulu & Partners and 7de Laan. She also appeared on a couple of feature films, Awakening (2014) and Beneath the Art (2015).
A lot of her work has also been behind the scenes with voice overs in radio dramas. One which may come as a shock to many is that she was the voice behind Smartycat on the e.tv kids’ show Cool Catz between 2008 and 2010.
The actress has also done a lot of voice overs for adverts including brands such as Aromat among others.
Soso Runqu is one talented actress who is also a musician at heart.
Like every other actress, Soso has faced a number of challenges in her career. At one point she had to go home to take care of her ailing father. “I had to give up the hustle and live (at) home for three years. My father would sometimes spend weeks and months in the hospital. Then he would be better and laugh, then the next thing he had dementia or couldn’t walk. If it wasn’t diabetes, epilepsy, kidney failure, hypertension or blood clots in the brain, it was something else. One day his body couldn’t take it anymore and it shut down, ” she said.
