After the controversial MacG and Jub Jub interview, many people were offended. Amanda du-Pont, for one, was so offended by the use of words by the men that she went the legal route and revealed alleged abuse stories from her past with Jub Jub. Dj Sbu has also expressed his deep disappointment with MacG and Jub Jub because they joked about him being homosexual.
The joke MacG made about Dj Sbu
Jub Jub asked MacG if he could smash a gay man, and MacG told Jub Jub that he doesn’t have an ounce of homosexuality inside him although he has friends in the LBGTI community, friends such as the radio presenter Somizi Mhlongo and the iconic Dj Sbu. After mentioning Dj Sbu’s name, both MacG and Jub Jub couldn’t contain their laughter. Dj Sbu was offended by this and went to his socials, posted that snippet of the interview and tagged them both, asking the two if that joke was how they thank him. Most Dj Sbu’s followers asked him to lighten up as it was just a joke whilst Dj Sbu’s industry peer David Kau agreed that the remarks were indeed disrespectful. MacG later told Jub Jub he was kidding after the pair laughed.
More people were offended by the interview
Minnie Dlamini also took to Twitter, describing the interview as so disgusting that she wishes she never listened to it. She also expressed how she was so disgusted that they spoke that she couldn’t finish the interview. Toya de Lazy, a South African pop star and Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s granddaughter and an LBGTI community member, told Dj Sbu that he loved whether gay or straight. Toya also stated that their joke on Dj Sbu’s sexuality was irresponsible and reckless.
We should remember that as much as Dj Sbu is not a gay man, jokes about him being gay are offensive to the gay community because it’s a mockery LBGTI members live through every day. Also, people who are heterosexual do not like being called homosexual because it goes against their identity.
