Is Gugu Gumede leaving Uzalo?
Savannanews previously reported that the thirty-year-old actress Gugu Gumede considers leaving Uzalo to pursue a political career towards the 2021 Municipal Elections.
Gugu Gumede was tipped to take over the reins at the National Freedom Party (NFP), a political party formed on 25 January 2011 by her mother, Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi, who passed away on 6 September 2021. Her initial bid to take over party leadership encountered resistance from senior party officials hence returned to what she loves the most, acting.
With the South African 2024 general election campaigns heating up, it is rumoured that the NFP considers offering Gugu Gumede an executive position in the party to retain and attract new voters.
Playing MaMlambo on Uzalo.
On Uzalo, MaMlambo is the spiritual guidance of KwaMashu; together with the KKC church, they bring a beam of hope and sanity to the poverty-stricken community. Representing the traditional side of spirituality, MaMlambo is a highly respected community member who often lands in trouble with the law due to her big heart. Seeing her niece Zekhethelo (Nyalleng Thibedi) leaving KwaMashu to start a new life, changed her and she has never been the same.
MaMlambo landed in trouble and dodged a lengthy jail sentence after being charged with kidnapping Smangaliso, a dumped baby she found in the veld. With Khathide nearly implicating her in a drug dealing syndicate, she feels it’s time to reconnect with her ancestors under the spiritual guidance of Gogo Menziwa.
Uzalo fans have witnessed their favourite actresses, Zekhethelo and Fikile, leaving the cast forever after embarking on an onscreen journey out of KwaMashu to start new lives.
