Inmate assaults fellow prisoner for being ‘Holier than thou’
In Mberengwa a prisoner Tadiwanashe Zhou (19) assaulted Reason Mugoni (26) for being prayerful and nice. Reason Mugoni lost a tooth and got the other two shaking.
Tadiwanashe hit his prayerful inmate with clinched fists because he was being a goody two shoes. Asa result, Tadiwanashe will spend fifteen more months in prison on top of his current sentence. This was passed by Mberengwa Magistrate Eva Matura. The Magistrate suspended 5 more months if Tadiwanashe does not commit a similar crime whilst in prison.
Reporting to Masvingo Mirror, Prosecutor Michael Ncube said,
“On 9 January 2021 at around 7.30 pm, Reason Mugoni was singing a church hymn when Tadiwanashe Zhou approached him from the toilet and joined in the singing but in a disturbing and mocking manner. Reason politely asked Tadiwanashe to stop disturbing him. Instead Tadiwanashe accused Reason for trying to show everyone that he is prayerful. That is when he started attacking the complainant. ”
” Since Reason is a hoot and humble person, he did not fight back or even attempt to fight back but as the Bible says give them another cheek, so did Reason to Tadiwanashe.”

Thus resulted in Reason loosing a tooth and other two shaking. Being prayerful and religious is a very good deed. However, in facilities like prisons people have different opinions and intentions so it is best to do your things in private.
The term Holier than thou is used when one presents themselves as knowing more or nicer than everyone. The character is termed annoying because they flaunt it in your face that they are better than you. This is why Tadiwanashe Zhou ended up a silting his fellow inmate Reason Mugoni but Tadiwanashe’s behaviour is wrong and should not be tolerated.
