Infidelity causes Chiredzi medical doctor to murder own children
A Chiredzi medical doctor William Phiri aged 56 murdered his two youngest children Prince and Victor who are three years and seven months old respectively. Dr Phiri also faces attempted murder charges for allegedly trying to kill his older children Ropafadzo and Themba.
The residents of Mkwasine claim the Doctor to be a humble, helpful, caring and honest family man. However, his behavioral changes are a shock and raise some kind of suspicion among the residents who recently argue with the Doctor. Some close friends and neighbors are still in disbelief.

Neighbors believe a domestic dispute between Dr Phiri and his wife triggered the violent attack which led to the horrific event. One specific neighbor Mr Tongogara notes that Mrs Phiri’s movements seemed suspicious and restless on the day of the massacre. Nehanda Radio reports that On New year’s eve Dr Phiri did not sleep home and this ignited the fight. Out of anger the doctor attacks his wife and she flees to her friends house for refuge.
Alone at the house Dr Phiri locked himself and his children in the house and murdered the youngest ones. He then tries to kill the other older ones whilst the house is on fire but faints.

This notion of Infidelity is supported by the words the doctor uttered after his disastrous spree. He said, “I want to die because I have suffered and I am suffering.”
On the other hand, Nehanda Radio also reports that the cause of rage might have been the decline of the Doctor’s wealth which caused stress. Signs of depression and unusual behavior were evident as the neighbors say he would sometimes come to the market and buy fruits for people even strangers.
