Incarcerated Former President Zuma calmed after his corruption trial is postponed again
The long-running corruption trial of former South African president Jacob Zuma, who is currently serving a 15-month prison term related to a separate charge, has again been postponed. The Pietermaritzburg High Court grants incarcerated Jacob Zuma his plea to postpone his corruption case to August.
The presiding Judge Piet Koen passed the judgment on Tuesday. At least the man gets to rest and focus on his ongoing sentence he is currently paying the price for. The judge said all parties involved were invited and given a chance to provide the reasons why the matter should not be heard virtually.
“The directive of 15 July 2021,that the hearing of the special plea will proceed by way of virtual hearing shall continue to apply unless revoked or revised as listed below,” Judge Koen said.

However, the State lawyers are labeling Zuma’s plea as trick. They also argue that the incarcerated Zuma’s presence during the court proceeding was appropriate and illicit. This is opposite to what Jacob Zuma’s lawyer think. He thinks the former president should be given the chance to appear in court when it is appropriate so that he can be able to show his evidence and properly explain his side of the facts.
Many people are against Jacob Zuma’s initial arrest. That is the major reason people went into the streets to protest. The public even went on to send threats t the authorities demanding his release. A lot of damage was done and people resorted to looting which further affected many businesses and infrastructure.
Zuma is in prison because he failed to appear before the Concourt. As a result his absence resulted in him receiving a 15 month sentence in prison.
