In Pictures, Where did the South African girl band Jamali disappear to?
In 2004 Jamali came second in a singing competition called Coca-cola popstars that have since been stopped. The group came in second place after the boy band Ghetto Lingo took the first prize. The girl group comprised three ladies and was formed on the show by contestants who came on as solo acts.
Liesl Penniken, Jacqui Carpede and Mariechan were the group members, and they pursued a music career together for 16 years before splitting up. The three went their separate ways to pursue their solo music careers in 2019. Jamali was derived from the first two letters of the three members’ names.
The girl group gave us hits like Love me for me and Greatest Love, which are timeless to this day. Three years after their separation, the three have been announced as performers for a Women’s day event on the 6th of August. This has raised the question among fans of what the group has been up to all this time.
Jacqui Carpede
After going solo, Jacqui launched a successful music career of her own and performed on many music productions like Extreme, The Wiz, Razzle Dazzle, etc. On top of that, she has shown her talent in acting by landing several roles in City Ses’la, Mzansi Love, Binnelanders and many more. She is also a mother and loves spending time with her son and family. Recently she released a single called Don’t Let Go and has been promoting her single on social media.
Mariechan Luiters
Like her other former bandmates, Marie has managed to stand on her own as a musician. The singer released singles like Just call me Marie Jane last year and then collaborated with her boyfriend Many World Star for her love song Pressure. Besides her music career, Marie is an Instagram influencer and always serves hot content and shows off her body.
Liesl Penniken
Lastly, Liesl has been working with gospel musician Benjamin Dube, and her fans assumed she was making gospel music. However, that is not the case; she is an artist who does not like boxing herself into one genre and works on anything she connects with. She has been a voice coach on Idols SA and worked with upcoming talent. Her social media content shows that she is mostly about family as she shares pictures with them.
