He was dupped as one of Mzansi’s finest. He was on top of his game for a while, and his role as a successful businessman on Generations made him a household name.
We can all agree that fans couldn’t get enough of Melusi Yeni, who played the mighty Phenyo Dlomo in Generations. His unmatched was every producer wish, and it seems every showrunner every producer wanted a piece of him. Melusi Yeni was flying high and living the good life. But then he was fired from the popular show in 2013.
In 2019 he made a return to our screens as he joined the cast of Imbewu The Seed. “Working with these legends is amazing, and I grew up watching them on TV, and today I get to sit and chat with them,” Melusi gushes.
It was so unfortunate that he was axed from the drama series. Up to ow the reasons behind his exit are still unclear. In the mix of things, he made all sorts of headlines.
According to Move Magazine, the former Muvhango actor, Melusi Yeni, was hospitalized for more than two weeks.
However, the reasons behind his admission were kept under wraps. He was later discharged and headed back to his parent’s home in Kwa Mashu, where he has been staying since hitting hard times. He was honoured by the people of Kwa Mashu for being an excellent example to the community.

However, Yeni hasn’t always been the “good boy” his community perceives him to be. The actor who played the role of Phenyo on the Muvhango found himself in a bit of a lover’s spat with his on-screen girlfriend, Angela Dzara, after she discovered he had a child with another woman. As if things couldn’t get any worse, Yeni was then fired from Muvhango after an alleged child maintenance scandal broke.
However, since then, he hasn’t managed to secure any gigs. Many questions have been asked if he was dead or alive. He has since deserted social media, and he hasn’t been on any social media platform of late. The actor once admitted that he got carried away with the fame and lost it all.
In an interview with News24, Yeni reflected on his life after Generations.
“I can now say I’m a fully-grown man. I’ve made mistakes on a personal and business level. But I’ve taken full responsibility. In my mind I was the coolest guy on Earth; everyone wanted a piece of me.”
“Jobs were no longer coming my way, and when they did, they were very slow and paid very little. I fell into debt, and I couldn’t afford my lifestyle. “It was so bad I couldn’t even pay my car instalments, and I had no choice but to take it back to the bank.
“Every day was a struggle. My life was fading away, and they shielded me from all the negativity,” says Melusi, who isn’t ready to share more about his partner.
