In Pictures: Uzalo actor Detective Mondli ‘Thembinkosi Thwala’ celebrates birthday, his real age shocks Mzansi.
Thembinkosi Thwala is famous for playing the role of Detective Mondli on Uzalo. On Uzalo, the detective Mondli character is the leader of the KwaMashu police station who is dedicated to eradicating crime in the community. Mondli has a working relationship with Lily Dongwe, Detective Nyawo and Oliphant; he is friends with Pastor Gwala and has previously dated Zekhethelo.
Ever since he replaced Captain Mpambani – the role played by Jet Novuka as the top cop in KwaMashu, Detective Mondli has managed to keep car hijacking gangs out of the community. Despite holding a tight ship at the police station, Mondli still struggles to keep his crooked subordinate detective Nyawo in check.
In a bid to make friends with the community, Detective Mondli and his team entered the KwaMashu talent show competition, where R50 000 prize money was up for grabs. Their gumboot dance performance was sabotaged by Nyawo, who individually won the competition.
Detective Nyawo was outraged by the spread of Red Pill in the streets of KwaMashu, which was mainly targeted at the community youth. He launched a search and arrest operation to curb the widespread abuse of Red Pill and targeted Khathide, the mastermind behind the distribution of the pill. Justice was served when he finally locked Khathide behind bars and vindicated MaMlambo in the process.
Detective Mondli on Uzalo age in real life
On Uzalo, he plays one of the most powerful men in KwaMashu and respectably carries himself. Thembinkosi’s onscreen maturity raised questions about his real-life conduct, and subsequently, his age was questioned.
Thembinkosi Twala was born on 27 February 1987 in KwaHlathi Mahlabathini; he studied Theatre, Dance & Music at the Hlalanathi Hillbrow Theatre. Before his acting breakthrough in 2012, Twala worked a general hand job as a packer at Checkers. He played cameo roles on Rhythm City and Rockville 2 before bagging a role on Uzalo.
