In Pictures, The Wife actor Thulane Shange ‘Mqoqi’s new look for mysterious role leaves Mzansi in stitches.
Thulane Shange rose to fame when he landed his role in Durban Gen as Mandla, an intern who was in his first year with Mbali and the rest of the crew. He went on to leave the production for a new role in the Showmax hit series The Wife, where he played Mqoqi. Like many of his castmates on the Stained Glass production, he gained more fame because of playing Mqoqi, which opened many doors for the actor.
Shange’s role in The Wife
In the series, he is part of the youngest trio of the Zulu brothers, who are always getting in trouble with his elder brothers for skipping school to hang out at the taxi rank. He likes to think of himself as a ladies’ man, always chasing after the beautiful girls he sees at the taxi rank and trying to win them by mentioning that his family owns taxis. Mqoqi has also the zeal to be involved in the family business and help his bigger brothers.
His other brother Sambulo who is known as a snipper took him under his wing and started teaching him how to shoot like him. At the end of the second season, Mqoqi helps save his brothers from a hostage situation from their rivals, but he keeps it a secret that he is the one who helped them, just like Sambulo did on several occasions.
Thulane Shange’s previous hairstyle before new look
Thulane Shange, the actor who brings Mqoqi to life, has been known to rock dreadlocks for the longest of times. From his time on Uzalo and even on Durban Gen, he was nicknamed Dr Rasta because of them. His recent change in hairstyle for a new role has also stunned Mzansi and left his fans dumbfounded.
Recently Thulane took to Instagram to share his new hairstyle for a new role he is working on. In the pictures, he had a short hairstyle with grey strands that make people think that he is playing an older man. In one of the pictures, there is a chalkboard behind him, and his formal attire makes people believe that whatever role he is teasing is of him being a teacher. From the look of things, it is also a theatre play he is part of, not a Television production.
Reactions from fans
In his comment section, many of his followers are shocked at his new look and keep saying he looks different and in character. Actress Khanyi Mbau even asked who was in the pictures, stunned at the change in his looks. Some are even starting to guess which character he is playing, with Bonko Khoza assuming that he is Barrack Obama in the play. However, many have speculated that he is Mr M from My Children! My Africa! Whatever his role is, many fans have reached a consensus that Thulane Shange knows how to get on character.
