In Pictures, South African actress Mmabatho Montsho wins big at Paris International Film Festival.
Mmabatho Montsho took over the South African entertainment industry as an actress with several roles on Television which made her a Household name. However, she has shown her love of being behind the screen and moved to New York to pursue that over the years.
In January, Mmabatho announced that a film that she produced, Benjamin’s Not Here anymore, had been nominated for the Best Film For a change at the Paris International Film Festival. The award show took place this February for ten days. In a follow-up Instagram post, the actress told her followers that her short Feature Film had won the Award.
Benjamin’s Not Here Anymore is a Short Film about a mother who can not remember and a daughter who can not forget. The film is written by Lindiwe Suttle, a songwriter and singer. Yolanda Ross and Epathe Merkerson take on the lead roles of mother and daughter in this Award Winning short Film. The festival was created to put french filmmakers and international ones under the spotlight. The ceremony has been held in France once every year with the red carpet and all the work.
Mmabatho Montsho’s career before she was a director
Before Mmabatho was a prominent shot director on the International scene, she was making waves in the local acting industry. The actress is known for several roles, including Lerato in Jacob’s Cross. She also worked in Rhythm City as Thembi, Generations, Tempy Pusha, etc. She is mainly known for her role in Mr Bones Back From the past, NetFlix hit movie Happiness is a Four-letter word and many more.
In 2010 she went to Los Angeles to study for directing course. After the duration of the class, she is mainly working behind the scenes. She starred in A hotel called Memory with Nomzamo Mbatha recently, but the entertainers are now primarily focused on Directing. This International Award that she has received is a huge achievement that will help put her work out there.
She has seemed to have abandoned her fashion dream which she started fresh out of High School with her friends. The fashion label they started back then is called Black olive Designs.
