A year ago, South African businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize bought Bloemfontein Celtic. She renamed the club Royal AM and appointed her son Andile the club Chairperson. The purchase of Celtic brought so much news on social media, with many fans unsure of MaMkhize’s ability to run a football club. To many fans’ surprise, the new club Royal AM finished third in the ABSA Premier League thanks to Andile and her mother’s good management.
Given her success last season, Shauwn Mkhize decided to buy another struggling football club to take to the top. The forty-seven-year-old businesswoman chose to complete the Royal AM brand by adding Royal AM ladies FC. The news came a bit earlier than expected but never a surprise, given MaMkhize’s support for women. Like she did with Andile leading the men’s team, it is now time for Tamia to call the shots at the ladies’ team.

Shauwn Mkhize had officially bought Celtic Ladie and renamed it Royal AM Ladies. No one would be happier about this acquisition than Shauwn Mkhize’s daughter Tamia, the new Chairperson. The twenty-six-year-old young lady is now faced with taking the Ladies club to the top like what Andile did with the men’s team.
The wealthy businesswoman’s empire seemed to rise as each day passed, and so did her family members like Tamia. In the early morning, Shauwn Mkhize had hinted at her Instagram status, saying Friday was finally here. She went on to cheer for the new chapter, but no one could know what she meant until later in the day.
Shauwn Mkhize and Royal AM on the rise
It took a year for MaMkhize to establish her name in the football fraternity in South Africa. She went from being a mere fan to an owner of a giant club that finished third in the top flight. Now Dr Shauwn Mkhize is targeting the legacy set by the likes of Kaizer Motaung as she launched Royal AM Ladies.
To show her commitment to Royal AM, she bought four new players and announced them on the same day. She also brought a new coach with fresh ambitions to the club. Undoubtedly, Royal AM is targeting the title this season, with the second position being the lowest expectation.
