Royal AM Chairperson/player Andile Mpisane was left to rot on the bench as he watched his team losing to Richards Bay. Richards Bay’s win meant they had overtaken Royal AM at the top of the log. It also means that Amazulu, Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and TS Galaxy will be on top of Royal AM if they win their games. Indeed Royal AM has performed poorly in its first eight games as they sit second, having played an extra game. What a poor start to a team that spent big in the transfer market after finishing third last season.
It seemed that Andile would be getting his much-awaited ABSA Premiership debut, but the circumstances would not allow it. Looking at his bench, Masekela had other ideas to turn the scoreline around without Andile. All this meant was that Andile had to delay his debut, leaving him frustrated and demoralised. The club’s Chairperson warmed up with the rest of the squad as he made it to the bench, but the day turned out to be bad for him. He had his number 1 jersey and was determined to play before Richards Bay came out gun blazing, forcing the coach to let his Chairperson rot on the bench. Despite having a good start, Royal AM fell to a first-half goal from Richards’ attacking midfielder Magubane. Upon trailing a goal down, Malesela had to change his plan to introduce Andile as a substitution.
Before the match, Royal AM coach Khabo Zondo spoke of Andile’s squad inclusion at large, leaving fans impressed. He said that he was ready and would do well if given a chance. He also said that choosing him for the match squad is another way of motivating him to work more hard on the training ground.
