Lingashoni cancelled after two seasons, series to end in March 2023
Just a few days ago, it was announced that The Queen had been cancelled and after its 7th season, it will stop airing on Mzansi Magic. DSTV revealed yet again that Lingashoni has been cancelled and will stop airing after the end of its second season.
It never rains, but it pours for telenovela fans as DSTV has been cancelled long-running drama series on a regular. Lingashoni fans have to say goodbye to the show that only started airing last year after DSTV won’t renew it for a third season. The show’s second season begins on 21 March 2022, and the finale will be on 16 March 2023. DSTV has issued a press release stating that it will not be renewing Lingashoni for another season after the second season ends in March 2023.
A new show will replace Lingashoni on its time slot, but it has not been confirmed yet as to what the show will be. However, DSTV has announced that it will not be a Telenovela but a reality show or drama series. This is because the channel is putting an approach where they will give slates to short series and reality TV.
Why Lingashoni was cancelled by Multichoice
According to research done by Multichoice, its customers are more interested in watching series that have fewer episodes and not telenovelas that go on for years. These shows grow figures and business growth as audiences want content they can relate to, which won’t drag storylines in years. The timeline that Stained Glass has been given means that it has a lot of time to pull of a satisfactory ending to the show as it is sufficient time for writers.
Lingashoni is a Telenovela about a powerful business mogul who returns to claim his life after being declared dead for a decade. However, he realizes that he had a wife and family in the life that he had forgotten about when amnesia struck him. He takes the wife and family that had saved him at the riverbank, and then the drama starts as they follow his journey trying to make his blended family a success together with his conniving first wife.
DSTV has also shown that they hope to keep working with Stained Glass in the future and even in the shows they are currently airing. These shows include The Wife, Ifalakhe and eHostela.
