Somizi Mhlongo, also known as Somgaga, is a radio presenter, actor, and choreographer born on the 23rd of December 1972. Yesterday, Somizi celebrated his 49th birthday in Dr Shauwn Mkhize‘s LaLucia mansion. The birthday celebration was themed Glits And Glam. The guests did not disappoint as they dressed in glittery sequence fabric adorned with feathers and ruffles.
Why Somizi’s birthday celebration was held in Shauwn Mkhize’s home?
Shauwn and Somizi have been good friends from their youth when they were both climbing in their respective careers, and they’ve maintained this friendship throughout the years. 2021 was a rollercoaster ride of a year for Somizi from January when he started facing severe challenges in his marriage with his now ex-husband Mohale Motaung. Somizi’s life went downhill when Mohale accused him of almost killing him with a kitchen knife and abuse claims. After the abuse allegations surfaced, Somizi was suspended from Metro FM and Idols SA. For his birthday, Somizi was at a point in his life where he needed his friends in an intimate birthday celebration.

Somgaga’s industry peers attended the party, such as the vocally gifted Kelly Khumalo, who rejected a gig in Zimbabwe after Somizi was barred from entering the Northern border. Presenter and actress Pearl Thusi, rapper Cassper Nyovest, Vusi Nova and legendary songstress Judith Sephuma.
Although it was a rocky year for Somizi, he has a solid fan base that has supported him through thick and thin. Now that abuse allegations levelled against him were abandoned, he’s gone back to working and he was luckily booked for the 2021 festive season. Somizi’s intimate party was an excellent way for him to close off the year.
