Actress Leera Mthethwa who plays the role of Mrs Jackie Hlungwani, a teacher at Gomora High School, has spoiled herself with a new Mercedes Benz.
On Gomora, Mrs Jackie Hlungwani is a strict teacher who quickly spots something wrong with her students. The 30-year-old actress holds a dual qualification, Bachelor of Arts in Live Performances – ADA and Honors in Film and Drama from the University of Pretoria.
Leera Mthethwa is a professional television presenter, voice-over artist, and events MC, her bubbly presence light up every event she precedes. She speaks more than five languages, including fluent Afrikaans.
The actress is living and slaying her childhood dream; she has always wanted to be a performer since an early age. She was inspired by the late musician Brenda Fassie and always wanted to follow in her footsteps.
“In Grade 1, when my teacher used to ask what we wanted to be when we grew up, I’d say Brenda Fassie.” – Leera Mthethwa.
She revealed that playing the role of Jackie Hlungwani has taught her valuable life lessons and the importance of persistence and consistency.
“It doesn’t matter what you are going through in your private life; at work, you need to show up and deliver.”
Leera was propelled into fame on Gomora; however, she is not new on our screens; over the years, she appeared on a few productions, including Generations: The Legacy, Soul City, and City Ses’La, as supporting cast roles.
For her Mrs Hlungwani role, she earns R46 000 per month, a decent amount to sustain her celebrity life. She supplements her onscreen income with Events coordination gigs and appearing on commercial adverts.
