In Pictures, Best and Worst dressed celebrities at Netflix Bridgerton soiree in Johannesburg
Netflix invited the cream of the crop in African entertainment to usher in the second season of Bridgerton, and everyone made sure they put their best foot forward, or so they thought. It was big dresses and even bigger hairstyles. The event took place in Johannesburg. Netflix appropriately assigned Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi to be the hostess with the most.
The event had been building up for weeks, and 400 guests were invited. The Bridgerton soiree pulled out the likes of Connie Ferguson, Khanyi Mbau, Thando Thabethe, Toke Makinwa, Kate Hanshaw, Zakes Bantwini and Mohale Motaung. Zozi shared details of what the party’s theme would be and wholly built our Curiosity and excitement.
Everyone was looking forward to the dresses on the red carpet, but some did not understand the assignment. The problem started with Zozi, who was the Queen of the show. Zozi came as Queen Charlotte, and she wore gowns designed by David Tlale; the gowns were both met with mixed reviews. Many called them a disaster and felt that the dresses didn’t represent the theme and weren’t as glamorous as was expected.

Khanyi Mbau wore a dress made by Port of LNG, whose creators are Dineo Langa and her husband. Toke Makinwa wore a Gert Johan-Coetzee, and she was the lady in green, and she bought royalty and glam. Thando Thabethe stole the show in a House of Sass gown complete with a killer hat. Mohale Motaung brought his best friend Wiseman to the event. They attracted negative comments the most because, their ensemble looked like they were going to a Black Panther event in Wakanda.
Ayanda Ncwane received some of the worst reviews for her tiger inspired outfit. Fans felt that some of her usual outfits from her closet would have been perfect for the event as she always looks like royalty. Her brother Phupho was also there giving us the Duke of Hastings vibes.
Anele Mdoda and Bonnie Mbuli were also amongst those who got nasty comments about their outfits. They were viewed as too simple and looked like they didn’t even try to make an effort to follow the theme. Zikhona Sodlaka, Sthandiwe Kgoroge and Lootlove were also called the worst dressed.

Besides the fashion, the event was filled with beautiful music and dance and even her Majesty, her self Zozi, was seen getting down at some point to the great music. Zakes Bantwini was part of the entertainment, and the guests were seen joining Zozi in the famous Drop challenge to a Beyonce song.
Bridgerton season 2 started streaming on Netflix on Friday to very mixed reviews. Regé-Jean Page is one of the breakout stars, and the one most people favour is not appearing on season 2. This has left a bitter taste in Bridgerton fans’ mouths.
