Thapelo Molomo has been making headlines lately after the news that he is broke and selling eggs on the road went viral. The Idols SA winner poured cold water on the rumours that he is broke and struggling to make ends meet. He revealed that selling eggs is his side hustle and wants to motivate his fans to create opportunities for themselves.
Talking to news reporters, he said:
“I’m not broke. I’m just trying to impact people’s lives. I invested the cash prize in a home for my family. I needed to get myself involved in a small project. Me selling eggs and atchaar is a motivation for the youth and musicians to create employment for themselves instead of waiting for it.”
“Creating employment for ourselves does not require you to think too big. With R500, you can buy a box of eggs, get profit and build from that,”
“I manage all these things by creating a smart time management table. I know midweek I’m at work, then after hours I deliver my atchaar and eggs, then I go to the studio, weekends I do gigs, so I’m hustling.”
“I’m mobile; people order, and I drive my old car to deliver, but I’m planning to open a shop.”
On Thapelo being a police officer
Idols SA star Thapelo has three years of experience working as a physiologist for SAPS. While he was a contestant on the reality show Idols SA, the SAPS management acknowledged the talent of their fellow police officer and shared on their Twitter that they were proud of him and wished him well on his journey. Fortunately, Thapelo won the competition.
Molomo was the first police officer in the history of Idols SA to win the show. He won the crown as Idols SA 2022 season 18 winner, along with amazing prizes. This includes a prize haul of just over R1 million cash, a brand-new car and vouchers to purchase expensive clothes from Truworth.
After his great victory on Idols, SA Thapelo reported to work on Monday, the 12th of December and received a warm welcome.
