The news of its canning was made known by an entertainment commentator Phil Mphela. He announced the latest development about the show on Twitter. However, in the mix of things, the singing contest will have its last season which happens to be the 19th season. The season has been given the green light for this year, and this will be its season finale.
“After 21 years, #IdolsSA will be bowing out of our screens. The show has been renewed for a 19th season, which will be the show’s final season,” he wrote.
There have been petitions to cancel the show several times for different reasons, and it’s finally coming to an end. Somizi Mhlongo, JR Bogopa, Thembi Seete are the current judges of Idols SA with ProVerb as the host. In the wake of its cancellation, it has been making all sorts of headlines of late.
A few weeks ago it hogged headlines after it was reported that Idols SA winner Thapelo Molomo is now selling eggs from the boot of his car on the streets. No doubt he has been trending of late. Thapelo Molomo was thrust into the limelight when he reigned supreme on season 18 of Idols SA last year.

However, in the mix of things, the celebrated musician who has since found his feet in the entertainment industry has cleared the air after the viral video flooded social media.
After all, it seems he has joined a host of A-list celebrities who are street hustlers. He joins the likes of controversial dancer Zodwa Wabantu and Lilly from Uzalo, who hustle in the streets selling eggs and hot dogs, respectively.
The Idols SA winner has not blown his cash prize from the singing competition. He is just ensuring he has more than one thing going on for him. Speaking to the Daily Sun, Thapelo Molomo revealed that selling eggs was another income stream for him. He has it that he does not want to rely on just one source of income.
“It’s a motivation for the people in the music industry to say, let’s try other ways of getting money because it’s difficult to get it right every time in the music space,” he said.
