Kudzai Mushonga, a businessman from Zimbabwe who has gained public attention for his romantic involvement with the popular Young Famous and African celebrity Khanyi Mbau, has recently shared his personal struggles with depression and thoughts of suicide while he was in the relationship.
Kudzai Mushonga, a 30-year-old millionaire from Zimbabwe, recently shared a detailed letter on the Instagram account of Maphephandaba, a popular gossip page. In the letter, he hinted at being in a relationship with a partner who was controlling. Although he did not explicitly mention his partner’s name, he provided enough clues for readers to deduce that he was referring to actress Khanyi Mbau.
The former couple first made their relationship public in February 2021 when Khanyi posted a photo of herself in Kudzai’s car on social media. Despite their relationship being characterized by extravagance and luxury, it was not without its share of drama. One notable incident that made headlines was when Khanyi left Kudzai in Dubai and returned to South Africa after he had dropped her off at a salon, expecting to see her again shortly after her appointment.
“For 1.7 years I had a fixed daily routine. Work 18 hours a day, sleep and repeat, and maybe go to the barber. I had very minimal contact and communication with the outside world and my mental health started falling apart,” Kudzai shared.
He said he did this out of fear of disrespecting his partner. However, he added: “It all felt like I was an inmate looking back at it.”

In his letter, Kudzai Mushonga revealed that the relationship profoundly impacted his mental health. He stated that it drove him into a state of depression and that he contemplated ending his own life at one point. He expressed a desire to leave his wealth to his family and girlfriend.
“Each time I tried to step out, it disrupted peace In my relationship, so I chose to stay home, only went out when she was home with me and that was maybe after 4 months for a few weeks. I started loosing my ability to communicate well with others socially.
“I started dying a slow painful death inside me and each time I shared how I felt, the response was always ‘your feelings are valid’ and dismissed.

Mzansi reacts to Kudzai Mushonga’s letter
Many people were shocked that Kudzai was suffering while they played a happy couple with Kanyi on social media. Here is a significant comment pasted from Instagram:
So pple be posting looking all lovey dovey and dying inside. and pple actually saying couple goals to a facade. it’s real out here. let’s learn not to have expectations of our real relationships based on social media relationships. let’s wake up to the fact that gifts and money don’t mean you are genuinely and purely loved. we have equated money to being loved. no money or gifts means no love in our generation. love is bigger than that. bigger than being posted, or showered with gifts. Love is being at peace and feeling at home with someone and so much so
