DJ Hlo born Hlosiwe Mthalane is making all sorts of headlines in the backdrop of her song of the year award. The 24-year-old DJ song Isibani featuring DJ Manzo SA and Siboniso won the annual Ukhozi FM award with 214,966 votes.
However, there has been an uproar concerning her win in the wake of her enormous success. Several songs topped the charts and were poised for the annual song of the year award, only to be toppled by DJ Hlo hit. It never rains, but it pours for the actress, but it seems she is sailing through the storm.
The bubbly DJ has responded to critics being levelled against her. Even her fellow industry colleagues have openly declared war on her and rubbished her win, citing irregularities that saw her being awarded a silver platter.

In her recent interview, the DJ says she is celebrating her win despite having a backlash. The Ingonyama Ehlukanisa Unyaka winner even revealed that she received several bookings after she walked away with the Ukhozi song of the year award. No doubt she is the plug, given that several artists are willing to collaborate with her.

Speaking on the sidelines of the interview, she revealed that she deserved it after outshining big musicians who were poised for the award. The DJ even let the cat out of the bag that some big stars are now blue ticking her because of her win despite being friends before.

However, DJ Hlo has it that she won’t be intimidated by haters trying to plot her fall. ‘I deserved it’ after the first batch of results was released, the DJ has it that she worked tirelessly to maintain her lead. Despite her controversial win, she managed to outclass the likes of Kabz de Small, DJ Maphorisa and Makhadzi. They had an illustrious year capped with hits such as Adiwele, Izolo and Kokovha.

Many questions have been asked about her career, and the DJ’s thrust into the limelight came in the backdrop of her colourful year in 2017. But despite all being said, it seems as if she is a regular when it comes to songs of the year. In 2020 her smash hit song made it into the top five of the same competition.
She is a jack of trades and master of all. Apart from spinning the decks, the DJ happens to be a Social Science Degree holder with the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Havard College. She majored in psychology and management.
