Africa is growing rapidly, with its population now estimated above 1 billion. The sharp growth I population will result in an increase in the rate of unemployment.
Africa has a leadership crisis, and its not helping to reduce the levels of unemployment. The level of growth in industries is falling short of the rise in population
Steps to get a job in Africa
Select a country
The first step is to select a country that you want to settle in. Factors that you can use in selecting a country are the following:
Population: It is not advisable to target a country that is overpopulated. Countries like Nigeria are already overpopulated and they cannot accommodate a new workforce anymore. However oil extraction and refining related jobs are growing in Nigeria.
Salary: Perform salary surveys before you select a country. Generally jobs in Africa do not pay much. However jobs related to mineral extraction and processing offer huge salaries.
Security: Security of expats is a major issue in Africa. Recent xenophobic issues in South Africa and other African countries highlight the need to look for personal security as a priority.
Contact employment agencies
Look for major employment agencies and submit your CV. Talk to Human resource consultants in those agencies to find out your best fit. Employment agencies assist you with information about vacancies that are usually available.
Submit your CV on Job Boards
There are a lot of job boards across Africa. Examples are Jobberman in Nigeria and Ghana, Brighter Monday in Tanzania, Go Zambia Jobs in Zambia, Vacancymail.co.zw in Zimbabwe, Pnet, Career24, Jobsdirect.co.za in South Africa.
Edit your CV
Each country has its own specific requirements when it comes to the contents of the CV. Engage CV experts in that country and get your CV edited to those specific requirements. Make sure your location and expected salary are clearly included.
