‘Drugs and alcohol took over, ‘How Soweto man blew R1 million inheritance

Zolani inherited R1 million from his late parents and blew it away.

He narrated his story to Mzansi Magic’s I Blew It, Show:

The inheritance was split into three and was split according to age, with the oldest getting the least. I got the medium and my young sibling got the most. It was an issurance policy that our parents left for us.

I heard the money had reflected in the bank account so I went and checked. I saw a lot of zeros that I have never seen in my life.

Honestly, it did not register at first that I had R600,000. It’s half a million. Then it started the rollercoaster ride. First time I saw it I withdrew the money from the bank account so that I could see if the money would come out. If you don’t have money in cash in your hands there is no connection. You need to touch it, feel it and smell it.

So  I pressed the highest amount and I heard the ATM sound as the money came out.

My brother went into debt and he started to influence us. He convinced Nomceba (sister) first then me. We were so under pressure to sell our parents’ house around the time the country was going through a recession.

We got much less than the worth of the house as it was valued at R2,5 million. I got R400,00.

I used to smoke and drink a lot and I found myself experimenting with cocaine until I met the one drug that crippled me which is crack cocaine. They say cocaine gives you the strength of a superman.

The money started running out and I received a notification from the bank that I was left with R20,000 then I asked myself, “did you work for that money, it might as well run out.”

I underestimated the power of having a job, using my effort and proper planning as my mother would do. I regret deciding to spend the money from her life assurance policy recklessly and not taking care of her assets because they were not mine.
