History rewritten as Zozibini Tunzi becomes the longest-reigning Miss Universe
South African beauty queen and Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi will go down in the history books as the longest-reigning Miss Universe ever! It’s now 466 days and counting since she was crowned Miss Universe back then in December 2019.
During her reign, she was regarded as an African jewel as she became the first black Miss Universe to wear the crown since 2011.
She didn’t just become the first African pageant to wear the crown since 2011 but her victory made her the third South African woman to win the title.
She hails from Sidwadweni, Tsolo in the Eastern Cape. Unfortunately, her reign has come to an end. She will be handing over the Miss Universe Crown after wearing it for 466 days and counting.
Due to the pandemic, the annual beauty pageant could not take place last year. However, the 69th beauty pageant is slated for Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood Hotel. Zozi took it to social media to reflect her journey and Mzansi was more than impressed.

“My @missuniverse fan side is screaming! It’s always so exciting for me to watch the show and it is finally here. I’m so excited for every contestants’ journey and I wish them all the best of luck!” announced Zozi.
The heartfelt message made Mzansi weigh in with comments of appraisal and appreciation. Miss South Africa was amongst the first ones to flood the comment section to commend Zozi.
“Extraordinary times call for extraordinary leaders! Today we celebrate Zozi as the longest-reigning Miss Universe! Thank you for taking up space and inspiring us all.”
Enjoying her last days as the titleholder, Zozibini took to IG to re-affirm her status as Miss Universe. She had this to say.
“The one with the Title Deed of the Universe. The keeper of keys! The landlord. First of her name! You can disagree in the comments if you like. Not sure where you’re gonna stay after I kick you out though.”
