Tumi Mooi, popularly known as Dj Dimplez, was playing a set at a private party in Soweto when he collapsed. Boitumelo Athiel Mooi, a family member, said that DJ Dimplez collapsed from a sudden brain haemorrhage. He was indeed rushed to the hospital to get help, but he didn’t make it. Fans are still devastated, it hasn’t been a whole week since Riky Rick’s passing, yet another start has died. South Africa keeps losing talent.

Dimplez was born in 1993 in the mother city of Cape Town. He began his musical career in his late teens and began to flourish when he was in his early 20s. He passed away after collapsing on the 8th of February 2022, meaning he passed away at the tender age of 29.
He was a music producer, and a DJ booked across Mzansi, and his music catalogue is quite impressive. After his tragic and unexpected death, people realised they didn’t know much about him. He was transparent about his career life and not his personal life.
Career inception
He started out playing for various clubs, parties and events. After gaining traction as a skilled DJ, he became a resident DJ on Hlelo and Thando’s YFM radio show called double up. After a while, he was also invited to share his hip hop DJ skills on the famous Metro FM. After a period of playing other people’s songs on his sets, he knew the music industry needed some of his flavours.
He released famous songs like Amantombazane, Amantombazane remix featuring the late Riky Rick, Kwesta, Kid X, Nadia Nakai and more. He also released the song Yaya featuring the internationally acclaimed Anathii. His other songs are Kub’hlungi, Toast, Issa Celebration, Jump Amafence and many more.
Celeb friendships
He was relatively close with many of Mzansi’s public figures like Bonang Matheba, Somizi Mhlongo, the Naked Dj, most of the rappers in the country. People describe him as a sweet person.
Controversy
Dj Diplez opened a rape case against a woman who claimed she was pregnant with his baby. She claimed they met at a party and hooked up a few times. Later on, their Whatsapp conversations were leaked, and it was revealed DJ Dimplez gave the woman money for the morning after pills, but the lady didn’t buy them. What happened next is still a mystery.
