Herman Mashaba is a former Mayor of Johannesburg and a Democratic Alliance member. On 6 December 2019 Herman Mashaba launched The Peoples Dialogue, a platform which he interacted with millions of citizens discussing civil, social and economic issues. The Peoples Dialogue was launched on 6 December 2019, run until 29 February 2020. Mashaba revealed that he will form a political party at an announced date to compete in 2021 local government elections.
Herman Mashaba Biography, Age, Family, Wife
Herman Mashaba was born on 26 August 1959 in GaRamotse, Hammanskraal, Gauteng. He is married to Connie Mashaba the CEO of their family business Black Like Me. The couple married when Herman was 22 and Connie was 20. Herman and Connie have two children Rhulani Mashaba, Khensani Mashaba.
Herman was raised by his mother who was a domestic worker, he graduated from high school but didn’t complete his tertiary education due to financial constraints.
The Businessman
Herman worked for SuperKurl, selling African hair-care products and broke all selling records to become the company’s top employee. With is entrepreneurial mindset and his selling and marketing skills, he acquired a loan of R30 000 from is friend Walter Dube and launched “Black Like Me” on 14 February 1985.
Black Like Me went on to became the biggest hair brand in South Africa, making Mashaba a multi –millionaire.
Political History
Mashaba served as the Chairman of Free Market Foundation from 2012 to May 2014 before stepping down to join the Democratic Alliance as a card carrying member.
Herman Mashaba was elected Mayor of Johannesburg in 2016 local government elections as a Democratic Alliance candidate. This was after a coalition between Julius Malema led Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) to unseat The African National Congress (ANC)
On 22 August 2016, Mashaba was sworn in as the Mayor of Johannesburg, the first non-ANC Johannesburg mayor since 1994. He later resigned on 27 November 2019 citing differences he had with the DA leadership.

Herman Mashaba formed The People’s Dialogue, a medium to interact with ordinary South Africans and discuss social and civil issues, which launched on 6 December 2019, and closed on 29 February 2020.
Mashaba reveals that he will launch a political party to contest in the 2021 local government elections.
The launch date has not yet been set due to the unpredictable coronavirus pandemic. Herman Mashaba said that his new party will not contest in all metros, the mistake he referred to as done previously by small parties. His party will contest in strategic metros they have a chance of governing which are mainly Ekurhuleni, Tshwane and Johannesburg.

How to join Herman Mashaba’s new political party
