Thulani Mtsweni plays the role of Bongani on Mzansi Magic telenovela Gomora. The Bongani character on Gomora is in love with Zodwa Zondo, and marriage vows are set to be exchanged. Bongani faces a challenge to keep Zodwa from her ex-husband Don Buthelezi – the role played by Israel Matseke- Zulu. Gangster Don is the father to Zodwa’s children and sends thugs to harass his family to show how useless and a coward Bongani is. The devil who wants to appear as a saviour, Don seeks to find relevance to his family as their protector.
Bongani’s age comes under scrutiny due to his appearance and stature, representing the beard gang well; Thulani has always been in his beards since the previous two decades. Just as some actors play characters that don’t match their real ages, Gomora fans are shocked that Bongani is younger than he looks onscreen.
Bongani on Gomora real age
Born on 31 July 1968 in Tsakane, East Rand, Thulani was a late bloomer; unlike other soapie stars, he found his breakthrough late, and he first appeared on our television in 2015 at the age of 47.
Due to rejection and hatred in the acting industry, Thulani got exposure to drama by working with student-produced plays for a longer part of his career. His major television breakthrough came in 2017 when he bagged a role on Isidingo, where he played Shadrack Bhekiziswe Sibiya, a miner who always courts trouble. Over his acting career, he played Mpihlangene Zungu on Isibaya and was featured on etv’s Rhythm City, where he played the role of an abducted boy.
At a young age, Thulani pursued a career in football and was a child trialist at the Soweto giants Orlando Pirates, a move that failed to materialize.
He is a father to an aspiring food stylist and travel guide, Sanele Ngcebo Mnguni.
