South African businessman Hamilton Ndlovu’s fleet of luxury vehicles was scheduled to be sold at an auction in Johannesburg on July 5th. However, the auction was postponed, following a ruling by the Special Tribunal that Ndlovu must pay R157 million from questionable PPE tenders.
Ndlovu’s Companies Scored Payments from PPE Tenders
According to the Daily Maverick, Hamilton Ndlovu’s eight companies and associates received payments between March 31st and June 29th. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Ndlovu reportedly received R172 million in Covid-19 PPE tenders from the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS). The Special Investigative Unit found that he took nearly 90% of the PPE tender for himself.
Luxury Vehicles Expected to be Auctioned
To repay some of the money, several of Ndlovu’s luxury vehicles were expected to be auctioned on Wednesday. However, on that morning, Park Village Auctioneers postponed the auction until further notice, according to TimesLive. The five vehicles belonging to the businessman include a 2020 Porsche 911 Carrea, a 2020 Porsche Cayenne S, a 2019 Porsche Panamera GTS, a 2019 Lamborghini Urus 4.0 V8, and a 2021 Jeep Cherokee SRT.
More About Hamilton Ndlovu
Clive Lazarus, the director at Park Village, was quoted as saying, “We received instructions on the evening of July 4th to postpone the sale of high-profile assets stemming from Hamilton Projects CC in its upcoming national vehicle auction.” He added that there had been “drawn-out litigation” and “last-ditch attempts” to halt proceedings. However, he stated that creditors must be paid and auctions remain the most reliable and fastest way to realize fair prices. “I am certain the sale will proceed,” he said. “We will announce updates as soon as they become available.”
