GZU lecturer sued for asking for sex in exchange of Exam marks
Nomsa Mwashita from Great Zimbabwe University is suing her lecturer Dr Tapiwa Mudyahoto for $5 million for pain suffered due to supposed sexual abuse. The claim suggests that Dr Mudyahoto made sexual advances on Nomsa and at some point flashed his manhood in front of her.
After Nomsa Mwashita denied, Dr Mudyahoto failed her in his course Physical Education. The Mirror reports that the filed case indicates that Nomsa’s papers were marked by three different lecturers who gave her a pass mark after complaining to the authorities. This twist of events comes after Dr Mudyahoto accused Nomsa Mwashita and other 23 students of accusing him of demanding sex for marks after she failed her examinations.

The outcome of the remarking exercise was adjudged as having passed the exam and her official results were altered to reflect the passing grade.”
“The Plaintiff went through untold pain and suffering as s result of the defendant’s actions and was psychologically tortured, humiliated and harassed and continues to suffer as such.”
“The plaintiff claims the payment of $5 million for pain and suffering as a result of the sexual harassment. Interests at the prescribed rate of the sum of $5 million from date summons to the date of full and final settlement and costs of suit at an attorney and client scale.”
Many incidents of lecturers conflicting or engaging with female students at universities have been reported. In 2018 a male student from the Midlands State University committed suicide after a lecturer failed his dissertation all because the lecturer loved the student’s girlfriend. This is a matter that requires attention as women are continuously abused in educational institutions.
