Businesses have had a struggle in staying afloat ever since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. At the heart of these struggles is the transport sector. Unfortunately Grey Hound and City Liner have had to fold and close doors after 37 years of being in service in South Africa.
The luxury coach has released a statement to that effect. Their announcement on social media read:
“Announcement: Greyhound & Citiliner are closing operations. Services will run until 14 February 2021. Passengers with tickets booked for services after this date will be refunded. For assistance with refunds, contact Call Centre: 087 352 0352 or email: [email protected].”
Greyhound was the first luxury coach operator to start an intercity scheduled service in South Africa as far back as 1984. The group said it now carries more than 14 million passengers a year over a distance of over 25 million km.
Grey Hound and City Liner shut down
This comes after Clicks also announced that it will be closing down the music retail line, Musica. This was met by sighs as the line has been at the heart of South African music for decades.
Another business to cry foul over Covid-19 is the Ster Kinekor cinema line. Ster Kinekor recently announced that they have entered business rescue as they are struggling due to the lockdown. “Since then the company has been operating under various forms of restriction, including curfews and mandatory limits to the number of guests per auditorium. In addition, there has been an impact of the rescheduling of blockbuster film contents from the original date, The board is of the view that the safe harbour that business rescue provides, in terms of providing a legal moratorium, will assist the business to return to profitability, once operating restrictions have been lifted, when international film distributions start to flow again.” they said in a statement.
