Government warns prophets for advising the public not to take the Covid-19 vaccine.
The Government of Zimbabwe warns prophets and church leaders for advising people not t take the Covid-19 vaccine. Last week prophet Makandiwa warned black people not to take the vaccine because it will destroy and ultimately kill them.
Mainstream Church leader Pope Francis accepted the vaccine and took the shot. Seeing how people are succumbing to Covid-19 in Zimbabwe, it is very unfortunate that some church leaders are dominating social media sites with conspiracy theories. Prophet Makandiwa recorded a video denigrating the Covid-19 vaccine.
Church leaders claim that black people will die from the vaccine and it is the mark of the beast 666 written in the Bible. The Director for Epidemiology and Disease Control Dr Portia Manangazira said it is reckless and ignorant for unqualified people to denounce medical and scientific issues to the public.
“It is in the best of interest of the public that technically sound persons make comments, discussions and recommendations around the Covid-19 vaccine.
” . However, given the severity and extent of the pandemic, its possible duration is approximately two years. Population immunity must be guaranteed and vaccines are key in building up the required immunity”, said Dr Manangazira.

She further informs the public that fear and perceptions are all due to lack of adequate information regarding the Covid-19 vaccine. When there is an information gap, people tend to fill that gap with myths, misconceptions do negativity.
Dr Manangazira encourages people to choose life, be patient, acquire correct and factual information. Before Zimbabwe procures the vaccine, the country will first assure if the vaccines are prequalified by the World Health Organisation. Zimbabwe medicines control authority will assess the vaccine for the safety of the people of Zimbabwe.
WHO country representative Dr Gasasira backs Dr Manangazira. He says that the vaccine would be subjected to thorough evaluation before distribution, thus making it safe.
