Gomora star Ntokozo ‘Ntobeko Sishi’ joined Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka on the 959 Breakfast show where he shared a heartbreaking family story, leaving his fans inspired by how he fought for his dream of becoming famous.
Ntobeko Sishi, who plays Ntokozo, the son of Gladys and Melusi Dlamini (Zolisa Xaluva) in the telenovela Gomora, opened up about his childhood and all the challenges he faced while growing up. Unlike other celebrities, Ntobeko didn’t grow up with a silver spoon in his mouth, he marched on and on and paved the way for himself in the aggressive entertainment world. Talking to Dineo and Sol, the actor says his mother died when he was six years old.
My mom passed away when I was six and after that, I had this very bad relationship with my father, and things kind of fell apart. I was young yet l could feel and sense that my father had so much haterade towards me. I wonder what a six-year-old son could have done to him. But now I understand him better, adults have their issues and they express their feelings differently.

As Ntobeko was having challenges at home, his aunt and uncle came to his rescue and offered to take him to their residence.
My aunt and my uncle did everything that they could so I can be who I am today.
When Ntobeko’s aunt and uncle took him in, the actor didn’t have a birth certificate and wasn’t going to school. His aunt had to play a mother figure in his life and ensured he was well taken care of. It wasn’t easy for Ntobeko to obtain his newly found life as he was used to living in a hostile home with his father.
There was a time when I didn’t know if I would be in school because I didn’t have a report card or a birth certificate. They fought for me, they really did. I ended up at the best University on this continent.
With no intention to return back to poverty, Ntobeko studied hard at school. He holds a stunning record at the school her attended as the first student to pass with distinctions only. Sishi did his matric in Durban KwaZulu Natal, passing with flying colours and holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and Finance from the University of Cape Town (UCT).
After sharing his heartbreaking story, Ntobeko also shared that he is passionate about music and sees himself as the next great songwriter and performer in Mzansi.
