Gomora actor Don ‘Israel Matseke-Zulu’ begs for acting gigs as he hits hard times. He has been dupped as the godfather of small screens. His unmatched acting flair has since thrust him amongst some of Mzansi’s fines. With an illustrious career spanning years, he has fast become that star actor we all love to hate.
In the wake of his new-found fame, it seems as if his illustrious career has taken a knock out of the blue. The celebrated actor, best known for his gangster characters in several soapies, is begging for on-screen roles. He has it that he has humbled himself for auditions but is yet to receive callbacks from showrunners.
Zulu has it that his woes started when he got his leg amputated after a long illness from a chronic disease. The actor, best known as GP-MaOrange, stated that his life had been completely changed. His illness forced him out of Gomora, where he starred as Don, who happens to be Zodwa’s lover.

Since his exit from Gomora, he has struggled to find work again, which has been taking a toll on his career.
“Life is hard because I can’t get a job as an actor. I think my missing leg is the cause,” said Israel.
He left Mzansi Magic’s telenovela Gomora late last year, citing illness as the reason. However, following his amputation, he refused to see himself as unfit and auditioned for TV roles but was not hired.
“I go to auditions, but I don’t get callbacks. I don’t want this to affect my mental health. It’s scary that life can change so drastically in such a short time. I know I’m a talented actor and I haven’t lost hope. Maybe something will come up sooner or later.”
Even though he is not getting TV roles, Israel says he keeps himself busy. The actor has since switched the floor to directing to keep himself busy.
“I’m producing my own films with a friend. I hope everything goes well. I’m also recording my kwaito album to be released soon. I don’t want to feel pity for myself, so I make sure I keep myself busy.”
