Generations ex-actor Thembile Botman escapes jail as charges are withdrawn
Former Generations: The Legacy and Abo Music actor Thembile Botman has escaped imprisonment after charges against him were withdrawn.
He was charged with theft last year around the same time.
Botman (44) and his lawyer Gcina Dlanjwa visited the Stilfontein Regional Court and saw his criminal charges for malicious damage of property and theft dropped.
He has been charged with robbery as well but the charges were withdrawn earlier this year.
Botman was arrested last year during a protest that turned nasty after a bread truck was looted by the protestors at the Orkney-Potchefstroom Road near Khuma.
Last year North West police spokeswoman, Colonel Adele Myburgh confined that a driver was intimidated and his keys forcibly taken by the protesters before bread was stolen from the truck.
“Some members of the community had allegedly embarked on a violent protest on 16 September on what appeared to be related to service delivery.”

During the protests, eight houses belonging to ANC councillors Ben Ntaopane, Pogisho Mabedi, Mpapa Qankase, Selina Sithole, Kuna Ponisi, Sebenzile Daemane and deputy director of sport Hunter Morebudi we set alight.
Other suspects in the case were freed on R1,000 bail.

Botman’s lawyer Dlanjwa said he’d always believed Botman was innocent and fought to prove it. He says Thembile Botman is justified to see charges withdrawn.
“Today, I personally feel vindicated knowing Mr Botman, who’s not only a client but a personal friend whom I’ve known for years. I also know how much this debacle has had a lot of strain on his personal life, so much so that he fell out of favour with fans who considered him a role model when he featured on various TV series including Generations and Abo Mzala.”
Dlanjwa said he is happy the case has been closed and his client can focus on his acting career after disturbances he faced.
