A gang committed a heinous crime in Phepheni location in Emaxesibeni, formerly Mount Ayliff when they mercilessly killed a family of five.
A group of unidentified suspects arrived at a family house Phepheni and called one occupant outside before killing him with sharp objects. His body was discovered by police in the garden outside the house.
The suspects went on to set the house ablaze in which four people were sleeping including children. All the four occupants were burnt to death according to police spokesperson Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana.
The motive behind the crime is not yet known to the police and investigations are ongoing. The police as not arrested any suspect and are looking for information according to Kinana.
Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Liziwe Ntshinga, was shocked by the death of the family.
The commissioner ordered the setting up of an integrated Task Team to prioritise the investigation and ensure that those responsible were brought to justice, said Kinana.
