Some South African youths are reporting success stories on social media in their bid to convince their parents not to vote for the revolutionary party ANC.
The ruling party has recently been involved in PPE scandals in many provinces with top officials benefiting from tenders. The developments have caused the party to trend almost daily on Twitter with the insulting hashtag #VoetsekANC mainly used.
One Tweep names Masta TT posted on Twitter, “Yesterday had an interesting debate with my parents about their loyalty to ANC, they swore not to vote for ANC again everyone in the family they told me that they are going to support my choice as i a member of Herman Mashaba party and volunteering in Soweto. Good news.”
Masta was supported by other followers, “Thank you for your service Masta. I’ve seen a lot of criticism from ANC loyalist & denialists when common-sense prevails. One thing they don’t understand, is that apartheid will never see the day of light again in SA by voting for a party that is willing to serve the people.”
Some youths are disgusted by the ANC’s arrogance and want to end it. One posted, “So according to Gumede..There is no country without the ANC ..this when asked what comes first , the country or the ANC ..Echoing what Zuma and Cyril have said …Hate to break this to you SA’ns ..We are fcked if this is what so called leaders and followers believe. I am proud to say that I have never voted for ANC and EFF in my life!! I will never vote for any party that is prioritizing foreigners kunama South Africans!! Futhi next elections im going to hide all my family member’s IDs, if they don’t change their mind about ANC & EFF”
Another youth who goes by the handle @curtly_online Tweeted, “I am an unemployed graduate and both my parents are active members of the ANC. I had a discussion with them during the PPE scandal and I sobbed. long story short we are not voting ANC and they are waiting for me to tell them which party I have faith in.”
However others believe the rest of old people will still vote for the ANC. One posted, “That’s 10 out of 100. The rest will vote …back into power. You haven’t spoken to everyone. Did you go to Umhlab’uyalingana? Did you talk to people in Sekhukhune?
