He has been winning big of late, and his on-screen character on Skeem Saam as Leeto has wowed Mzansi. In recent years he has fast become one of Mzansi’s finest when it comes to acting.
However, Eric Macheru’s thrust into the limelight came as a shocker to many. Before his on-screen fame, the celebrated star actor used to be a footballer.
Alas, he was not a random footballer but a football maestro who made headlines for his prowess on the pitch. Eric Macheru was part of the Ajax Cape Town dream team that hogged all sorts of headlines because of its young talent in the 2004-2005 season.

In 2005 Ajax Cape Town won the Soccer Kings competition and saw some of its star players having an opportunity to train with English Premier League top-flight club Tottenham Hotspurs. However, he was part of the team and trained with top-flight giants for a year.

In the mix of things, his blooming career was cut short after he had a career-threatening injury that forced him to hang his boots. After quitting football, he went on to furnish his craze for acting with a degree in Acting with AFDA. Of late, several reports have it that his furthering his studies.
He is enjoying his newfound fame with an acting gig from Skeem Saam. The bubbly actor was cast into Skeem Saam as Leeto, the eldest son of Meikie Maputla and John Maputla.
The 36-year old has since become one of the lead actors in Skeem Saam. However, aside from acting, he doubles as a business mogul. The cunning actor recently opened up a food outlet, Have Wings, in the famous Vilakazi street that houses two Nobel peace prize winners, the late Desmond Tutu former president Nelson Mandela.
